“What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.” (William Shakespeare) but would it? I kid but initial impressions are crucial to how we perceive things and the name of a salon is no different. Reed + Willow is probably the 400th iteration of salon names that were considered and it's the one that finally stuck. Why were there so many duds? Because every word in the English language was already taken, even a few words I thought I made up! I tried every word I could think of that was associated with the beauty industry, in multiple languages, Greek, Irish, Hawaiian, French, Italian, Farsi, you name it. All were already taken or too hard to pronounce so I had to move to another strategy. Sentimental. I knew I wanted the name to be something personal because this was a big investment for my family and I wanted it to represent us in some way but I couldn't find any combination of my kids or parents names that I felt was right so, once again, the search continued. I tried flowers, birth stones, birth months, and then finally something clicked. I looked up the tree associated with Andy's Mom's birth month and it was the Willow tree (My favorite tree) and then I looked up my Mom's birth month tree and it was the Reed, which was a design element (reeded wood) that I planned to use throughout the design of the space. Bingo! That was it Reed + Willow salon studios. I looked it up and no other salons with that name so here we are. Reed and Willow Salon Studios. Now we just need the salon part.
